Robben Island Museum

Robben Island is located off the coast of Cape Town South Africa. It became notorious as a place of imprisonment for opponents of apartheid such as Nelson Mandela. Its website provides tourist information on visiting the Island. It also includes a chronology of events, brief biographies of some of its famous prisoners and details about the holdings of the UWC-Robben Island Mayibuye Archives which are an excellent source for the study of the history of apartheid and political imprisonment in South Africa.
