In November 2006, the Permanent Mission of Finland held a Workshop for Newly Elected and Present Security Council Members. The report of the workshop has been transmitted as a document (S/2007/137). According to the transmitting letter, "The Government of Finland expresses the hope that this report will ... contribute to a better understanding ... of the complexity of the work of the Council." Sessions of the workshop included:
  • The role of the Security Council in the maintenance of international peace and security
  • Working methods
  • Security Council committees and working groups
  • Cooperation with other United Nations organs
  • Broadening inputs and outreach
