With only three years to go it is very hard not to imagine what the world cup will look like in 2010. In previous studies it has predicted that 50% of the black population in South Africa would have died of HIV/AIDS. There would be an abundance of orphans. The crime is in a league of its own, whilst HIV/AIDS is destroying the masses, crime in the form of rape and murder are playing Robin to the Batman of AIDS. South African criminals don't even leave the tourists alone. The poor people are paying alot of money that could potentially pay for their food in prison and all they do is rob them. Our soccer players are also either not prepared to represent the country because of lucrative overseas contracts. I wonder what kind of team we will be having when all the good, experienced players are overseas and the developing players are being scooped up by international teams. As for the coach saga, it is looking rather dim. The man cannot turn a bunch of amateurs into superstars overnight. But the money he is getting paid is enough to build so many RDP houses (which could decrease the shacks in big cities like Cape Town). I hope all of these problems will be resolved in the little time we have. I mean the Commitee has been very slow to act, it is only now that stadiums are taking shape. I'm an optimist so I know we can do this but the statistics are a bit worrying.
