In the winter of 2008, the Council on Library and Information Services (CLIR) convened a group of 25 leading librarians, publishers, faculty members, and information technology specialists to look into the following question: "How should we be rethinking the research library in a swiftly changing information landscape?" As part of this discussion, the participants discussed "the challenges and opportunities that libraries are likely to face in the next five to ten years." The 81-page report is divided into two sections. The first provides a basic overview of the ways in which research libraries might transform themselves in the near future and the second section contains eight short topical essays from some of the participants. These essays include "Co-teaching: The Library and Me", "The Future of the Library in the Research University", and "The Role of the Library in 21st Century Scholarly Publishing". [KMG] Scout Report

Oxford University Research Archive The Oxford University Research Archive is a self-archiving repository of research papers produced by members of the University. It includes a growing number of working papers, book chapters, articles, theses and conference papers. All academic subjects from the Sciences, Social Sciences and Humanities are covered. The database may be searched at author, keyword, title etc. level, or the full text of the contents may be searched. Many of the papers are in PDF format and therefore require access to an Adobe Acrobat Reader for use. From Intute.ac.uk

Rhodes eResearch Repository (ReRR)

The ReRR is an open access institutional repository of the academic and research output from the Rhodes University community. Current contents include full-text theses, journal articles and papers from conferences, workshops and other events. The repository is administered by Rhodes University Library.

Betsy Wilson’s Crystal Ball: New Directions for Libraries

I am going to imagine the future of research libraries by taking a look back, gazing into the crystal ball, and suggesting four areas for strategic investment. The investment areas include: 1) collaboration and collective action; 2) culture of assessment; 3) the global research library; and 4) creating a workplace of choice.
