National Tests at Primary Schools: Foundations for Learning Campaign

Posted by Ingrid Thomson | 25 Mar, 2008

Learners from grades one to six will write national tests in literacy and numeracy starting in November, according to a story in this week's Mail and Guardian.

It is proposed that these test results  be sent to the Minister of Education annually.

The Department of Education's aim is to improve pupils' average skill in reading and numeracy to a 50% proficiency by 2011. The roll-out of the tests  forms part of the Foundations for Learning Campaign, which was launched last week by Minister of Education Naledi Pandor and has been gazetted. No. 306 14 March 2008
