Report in the Weekender (18 October 2008)

"AS THE African National Congress (ANC) prepares to extend free education to 60% of schools next year, it has emerged that little has been done in the past year to ease infrastructure backlogs at the poorest schools.

Happy World Teachers' Day!

Teachers Matter!  World Teachers' Day is celebrated on 5th October each year.

UNESCO calculates that 18 million additional teachers are needed worldwide if the goal of universal primary education is to be achieved by 2015. Many more teachers will be required to meet the needs for secondary, higher, technical and vocational education, according to a joint statement issued by them.

On World Teachers’ Day, do you want to say “Thank you” to a teacher who made a difference in your life? Electronic greeting cards are available on: www.5oct.org
