Whats the difference between no name brand cornflakes, and kellogs cornflakes?

Cereal. Does it really matter???

My room mate and I have different brands of exactly the same breakfast cereal. Hers is "the Original" while mine is what is commonly referred to as the "No Name Brand". I for one, am very much against logos, whether it be clothing, make up, accessories, appliances or pretty much anything of the sort as I think it is a waste to buy something simply for the "label" and for the "cool factor" which is associated with it.

No name brands were created, when specific companies refused to lower their prices and claimed that if the outlets lowered the prices, they would sue. Therefore, the no name brand was created, to be a substitute for these more expensive products. A 500g box of the no name brand cereal is R9.99, whilst the original cereal 500g box, is R15.99. The original cereal’s promoters will claim their quality is superior, but

When you get down to it, other then the label and trademark which you are buying, is there really a difference between the two?

Upon doing a survey, where people were offered up two identical plates, which held identical quantities of cereal, the participants were asked to taste each one and to say which they thought was the original, and which the no name brand was. 20 people took part, and 14 got it completely wrong. One person even exclaimed whilst eating her 4th mouthful of the No name brand, "oh! This is definitely the original, the other one is disgusting!" According to these statistics, it seems clear that the "superior" taste of the original cereal is not as fantastic as one would imagine, and the no name brand seems to be giving it a run for its money after the first test!

I then moved on to the nutritional information on each pack of cereal.

The no name brand had slight differences in some of the fields, for example 2g of protein per 40g serving, as opposed to the originals 3g of protein. The no name brand Vitamin A and D content was also considerably higher! On the other hand, the more unhealthy aspects were also lower in the no name brand cereal whose sodium( http://www.cnn.com/HEALTH/library/NU/00284.html )content 120mg lower as was the carbohydrate quantity (which makes a difference to us who think carbs are the enemy)!

The health conscious amongst us, would therefore be inclined to choose the no name brand cereal.

The no name brand cereal is so confident with its quality, that if you are not impressed with the cereal, you can return it and receive double your money back, no questions asked. On the other hand, the original cereal asks you send in a full letter of complaint, and doesn’t even state whether or not one would receive their money back.

In my opinion it is therefore clear, that if there is a choice to buy the no name brand, or the original cereal, it makes complete sense to go for the no name brand. It tastes just as good, if not better, the health benefits are evident and you can be sure that if you don’t enjoy it for some reason, you can take it back!

So, instead of paying for a pretty box, try the more sensible option. Try the no name brand.

I havn't had no name corn flakes in ages, but if memory serves, they are not modeled after kellogs corn flakes, but rather frosty flakes... and thats tyhe point, if the servey was feeding them both, the frosted non name flakes would come out on tops, because they are much sweeter. You implied that the people where eating korn flakes before the no name flakes... this would simply enhance the flavour of the frosted flakes...

    Another thing is, they once did a servey on coke vs pepsi... this cost Coke millions, because they reworked the entire recipe, it also had to do with drinking pepsi 1st and then coke... almost all the testers said that the pepsi tasted better. coke is much sweeter than pepsi. its like drinking coke just after brushing your teeth... its gross... not only that... the reason you pay for kellogs is because you are buying kellogs, its the secret recipe... same reason coke costs almost twice the price of Cola or any other spin off.

    As for clothing... I know my Cats are better than my soviets, not cause i payed 700 rand more, but because after a year of heavy use, the cats still look good, and my soviets have worn through in less than 3 months. Quality is worth paying for!

  2. first of all... no name brand corn flakes, are not modelled what so over, on the brand you have refered to as "frosties". they have absolutly no sugar coating what so ever, and look exactly the same as corn flakes. go to the shop, buy a box for R9.99 and see for yourself....

    secondly, where did this coke/pepsi arguement come from???? did i mention coke or pepsi? did i bring it up at all? Of the people i had tested, many of them had never tasted either before so they could not be bias towards a certain make of cornflakes....

    thirdly, i have soviets, they have lasted perfectly well for the last few years, no problems there at all, so im not sure what you do with your shoes.. and last, but not least.... cats!!!!! who wears them anyway!? :P you are paying for a label, thats all there is too it..........
