There are two things i hate in this world; Southern comfort and the DA. Tony Leon wrote a letter to the Cape Times yesterday complaining that UCT's admission policy (Law and Medicine allows other races except whites to score a lower matric rate) was reverse racism. Mr Leon has obviously never lived in a two roomed house with ten occupants. Unless he has tried that, he can't cry out reverse racism. Blacks and coloureds who live in rundown townships definately deserve a chance at higher education, how else will they ever get to improve their situation. Afterall it was apartheid that drove people of colour into the townships.
Its too soon to say all that equal opportunity nonsense. Mr leon examine the deomgraphics of those in Constantia, Mitchells Plain and Khayelitsha....it is clear that blacks and cloureds need to recover lost ground. it not reverse racism, these things are to eradicate the legacy of aparthied.

What got me was his non sequitur about how talented /clever / deserving black students would feel insulted by the policy, as if their admission was a favour and not deserved. Oh really? how many has he asked? As an affirmative action beneficiary I'm grateful for the chances it gave me. Else I'd be where my mother was before me. I don't feel insulted - but I do feel my intelligence is being insulted by the likes of Tony Leon!

Please... disadvantged schools have a lower standard of marking than 'white' schools making it MUCH easier to achieve A+ marks whereas a student of the same capacity is acheiving C's in a 'white' school.
Then on top of that it is now made near impossible for a white student to get in to university while the piss poor C students in a disadvantaged school easily slide in to university.
You're telling me that you're happy with that? Bah. As a white person I'm very disillusioned about the chances of my children in the future of South Africa. Making it near impossible for whites to acheive the same standard of education IS racism. Screw the reverse part of it.

How can you say that it's not a reverse form of racism because that's EXACTLY what it is! The point of having a point system for people to get into university is to sift out the people who will and who will not make it in the stream that they choose. Did you know that over 50% of first year students drop out before September? Don't try and tell me it's because they ALL decided they were bored with their work and wanted a change...it's because they can't cope with the work! I myself got 7 A's in a so-called "white" school and I got NOTHING because I was white. No bursaries, no scholarships, no reduced fees: NOTHING. I was just happy to get into university. How dare you complain about needing to have a chance at an education when it is us whites who have the LEAST chance of getting that education, not to mention getting a job afterwards. I mean, I know I'm not staying here after I graduate because there simply seems to be no place for me due to the colour of my skin. So please, let me know when, in your opinion, the reverse racism is over and true "equality" (that which everyone has been clamouring for and has yet to see) is finally here. Just remember, I'm the one with no future in this country-not you.

I’m in exactly the same situation. I guess at the end of the day you’ll have to decide yourself. Do you want to be cut by a doctor who might have gotten 30% or by a doctor who qualified with 80%. Sooner or later the results of these actions will show themselves. As for me, I’m off to Australia… not by choice.
