Data Manager for the National Income Dynamics Study

SALDRU has been appointed to conduct the baseline survey of the National Income Dynamics Study on behalf of The Presidency. This major study has involved interviewing approximately 30 000 individuals of all ages in about 7000 households across the country. These individuals will be re-interviewed at two year intervals. Data collection is nearing completion and we now require someone to manage the preparation of the data for public release. The initial contract period will be for six months.  View the advert.

Professor Thomas Sterner of Gothenburg University, Sweden, will be speaking at 13h00 on Wednesday 7th November. His talk will be based on the current climate change debate.  A recent paper on the topic by him was published by the US environmental think tank, Resources for the Future, and is available electronically at www.rff.org/Documents/RFF-DP-07-37.pdf

African nations urged to count all residents by 2014

Until recently, population censuses in Africa had fallen on hard times. They were characterised by irregularity, incompleteness and inaccuracy. When they did occur, governments often lacked the capacity and ability to use the information collected. Policy formulation, and the monitoring of programme implementation and socioeconomic development, took place in a statistical vacuum.

The Senior Vice President and Chief Economist requested an independent evaluation of all research activities carried out by the World Bank, both in its Development Economics Vice-Presidency and in other Bank units, between 1998 and 2005. Release of the Financial Diaries dataset
