The Centre for Appearance Research (CAR) undertakes psychological and interdisciplinary research in appearance, disfigurement and related studies. CAR is based within the Department of Psychology in the Faculty of Applied Sciences at the University of the West of England, Bristol. Current research projects include a programme funded by the Healing Foundation, "Identifying factors and processes contributing to successful adjustment to disfiguring conditions", and a CLIC-Sargent funded project on "Altered appearances during treatment for cancer: a qualitative study using photography to explore the experiences of adolescent patients and their families".
