Feeling better - lifestyle management for chronic mental disorders
A module that aims to familiarise clinicians treating patients with chronic severe mental disorders with a systematic approach towards the diagnosis of lifestyle associated physical health problems and potential treatment strategies. The module lasts one hour and is intended to provide an understanding of factors that can impair the health of patients with chronic mental health problems, to provide an appreciation of the impact of overweight, lack of exercise and smoking, and of the treatments able to modify these factors. The three principal sections of the module are on dietary and pharmacological weight control, physical activity, and smoking. The module was produced by Dr. Ursula Werneke, a consultant psychiatrist now based in Sweden, and is made available by the Royal College of Psychiatrists as one of their CPD Online modules.
