IS IT ACCEPTABLE FOR A WOMAN TO PROPOSE?

Posted by Nomvelo Makhunga | 1 Oct, 2007
I was listening to the radio a few days back and they were discussing that issue and I must say that the listeners responses were quite interesting. I've never actually thought about that issue but after that day, It made me think about it clearly. Firstly i don't see anything wrong with a woman proposing to a man but i find it much better if a man does the proposing. Another thing is that men tend to mistreat women who throw themselves to them and show that they are dependant on them and they tend to take advantage of that which at the end of the day leaves the woman with a broken heart. Also from my culture, The man is supposed to pay lobola so i really don't see how the woman can still expect the man to pay for the lobola if she's the one who asked for his hand in marriage. I personally don't see myself ever  proposing to a man but hey, those who want to do it and have the guts to sgould go right ahead.

KNOW YOUR LANGUAGE!

Posted by Nomvelo Makhunga | 30 Sep, 2007

It often puzzles me how some peope don't bother speaking their language. I mean what's up with that? I feel as South African's, people should know not only where they come from but also their language and they should be able to speak it fluently. What saddens me the most is that people have trouble expressing themselves in their languge and that to me is a disgrace and an emberassment, especially when one is at a family cultural event with elders. Children especially tend to go on and on in English and sometimes don't even want to take part in the family ritual that is being performed and that to me is quite disturbing. When I have children one day, I will teach them to be proud of their culture and language and they will speak their language when they are amongst people who speak the languge and they will also know that their ability to speak English won't have to necessarily be a measure of their knowledge or intelligence!

life's common factor....

Posted by Nomvelo Makhunga | 27 Sep, 2007
I always wondered what all people from all walks of life have in common and i must say it didn't take me long to figure it out. We all come from diofferent cultures and backgrounds but we all seem to want the same thing at the end of the day and that is ...... LOVE! No matter who you are and where you come from, you want love at the emnd of the day. We all can't seem to live without it and the type of love i'm talking about doesn't necessarily have to be the romantic kind of love but love from parents, friends, siblings, etc. It's also true what they say that money can't buy you love and if i were to choose between having all the money in the world or having love, i would certainly choose love because i just can't imagine life without it! So to everyone out there, I wish you the best in having love and finding true love!!!

THE THREE LETTER WORD THAT'S EVERYWHERE!

Posted by Nomvelo Makhunga | 22 Sep, 2007

I don't know if it's just me or what but why does it seem like sex is everywhere? Every single day we hear something about it and whenever i turn on the t.v it's highly unlikely that there won't be a programme that includes sex in the storyline. Small children now seem to know almost everything about sex and as they get older they seem to want to explore and see what it's really about as they are bombarded with it everyday and i think that is the reason why there are so many unwanted pregnancies and Aids orphans. There needs to be a certain level of control and i think it's up to society to start teaching children what they should know when the time is right!

The latest craze....

Posted by Nomvelo Makhunga | 20 Sep, 2007
Is it just me or is just about everyone one facebook except me? Every body seems to have it and quite frankly i'm not ashamed of the fact that i don't have it. First it was mxit, now this! I'm telling you, sooner or later another craze is going to come onto the scene and facebook will be another hasbeen. Im just worried that most people choose to go on facebook rather than actually doing their school work which is what they are here for. I'm glad that i'm one of the few people who didn't get hooked on it and no one is ever going to convince me to get onto it!

UNFAIR PARENTS!!!

Posted by Nomvelo Makhunga | 19 Sep, 2007

I just don't seem to understand how some parents can force their children to study something they don't want to. I mean, what's up with that? A friend of mine who's in matric this year is going through the same thing and i feel so damn sorry for her. She is such an artistic person who's full of creativity but her parents are practically forcing her to do a Bcom which is something that she has very little interest in. I feel so sorry for her and other people who are going through the same thing because it's totally unfair and it's stopping her from doing what her heart desires. I'm greatful that I have a parent who believes that a person should do what they are talented to do and what they have a passion for and not something that does not match your interests. Parents need to realise that we all have different dreams and aspirations in life and they should not try to live their lives through their children.

2010 HERE WE COME!!!

Posted by Nomvelo Makhunga | 18 Sep, 2007

I honestly have to say that I really can't wait for 2010 to come. Everyday as that year draws closer, I feel quite excited about all the opportunities that will be available to all South Africans. I can still recall the day that it was announced that South Africa had won the bid. Everybody was filled with joy on that day and I hope all that will be worth it when it does actually happen. I just hope that people don't think that things will just magically fall onto their laps. They should not expect to be just given jobs easily. Everybody can and should do something worth showing that they are worthy of being part of the bid, no matter how small a job they get to do.South Africa will be on display to the rest of the world, i just really hope that people will notice the beauty of South Africa and look past the imperfections such as the high levels of crime because despite all that. South Africa truly rocks and I'm proud to be a South African and there is no other place I would rather be!!!

IMAGINE HOW LIFE WOULD BE LIKE IF......

Posted by Nomvelo Makhunga | 17 Sep, 2007
there was no television, cellphones, computers, radio, ipods, transport etc etc. I think life would be quite difficult and unbearable. I mean, most of us can hardly live without things such as these and it's simply because they make life so much more easier but sad thing is that they have become the cause of a very lazy society. Life has become more and more about technology and almost everything can be done by humans. Everyday there is some new techno gadget that is invented and it becomes a must have that people can't simply live without. That sometimes makes me wonder if that is one of the reasons why the crime rate is so high.People are robbing others of their posessions simply because they can't afford it and they want to be like everybody else and that is quite sad as people are becomong more and more obsessed with material posessions that give them the type of social status that they want to have. Technology is a good thing and has helped the world to become a place more modern but people should not become too obsessed as there are always consequences in the end.

SHOULD A WOMAN EARN MORE THAN HER HUSBAND?

Posted by Nomvelo Makhunga | 13 Sep, 2007
I was quite surprised when a close friend of mine said that he would never marry a woman who earns more than him. I just didn't get it and i found it quite surprising that him of all people would even say that. I mean, what's wrong with marrying a woman who earns more than you? One would think that a person's bank balance does not matter, especially in a marriage. I think the problem is that men just have too much pride and think very highly of themselves and don't want to be seen as failures who cannot provide properly for their famillies. TIMES HAVE CHANGED and people need to start accepting that in order for all of us to move forward. Women now have equal opportunities in life and they should take full advantage of that and be proud of who and what they are. There also still seems to be a belief amongst some people that women were created to be housewives and the man the provider. That is a false notion and men need to accept that what they cando, a woman can do it better!

Ideal man,Ideal woman

I don't know if it's just me but do most of us actually think there is someone out there for each and everyone of us,SOMEWHERE! I know it's a crazy thought but i cant help thinking about it. I guess ever since i got to Varsity i think about things that will occur in my near future cause fact is im growing up and i have to think about those things. But I often ask myself what would an ideal man for me be like? I'm sure we all have images of the type of person we would like to marry stored in our heads somewhere but sad thing is people like that do not exist, that i have realised threough my own personal experiences. I guess we all have to accept the fact that perfect people do not exist but hey, who's perfect? I guess it's all about compromise and patience but hey, it would be pretty boring if everything in life was perfect, including people!
