Follow the UCT MOOC Implementation team as we navigate our way through “MOOCy” waters and share our experiences of producing MOOCs.
The University of Cape Town, through our department – the Centre for Innovation in Learning and Teaching (CILT) – launched its very first set of UCT-run MOOCs in early 2015. Having partnered with MOOC platforms Cousera and FutureLearn UCT currently offers seven MOOCs with topics ranging from understanding the mind, to climate change and inclusive education. Five more MOOCs are planned in 2017.
The CILT MOOC Implementation team is led by course development manager Janet Small with support from project manager Sukaina Walji. The team, responsible for creating the first set of MOOC by an African university on major international platforms also includes, learning designers Andrew Deacon and Tasneem Jaffer and learning design intern Michael Glover, with marketing support from Kyle Rother and Aamirah Sonday. An integral part of the MOOC team is the CILT digital media team consisting of Nawaal Deane, Rondine Carstens, Kristi Edwardes and Don Leitch who are responsible for video and multimedia production. The CILT MOOC Implementation team is supported by Laura Czerniewicz, director of CILT.
